Mastodon is pushing the sonic envelope into new metal
territory, and we’ve built a unique instrument for guitarist Bill Kelliher that
is sure to help in this endeavor. It’s a distinctively arranged 9-string
guitar: three strings on the bass side and six on the treble side, with each
treble string doubled for that chorused twelve-string guitar sound. The body is
a robust double cutaway with a mahogany back, maple top, and silverburst finish,
and the ebony fingerboard features pearl block inlays inscribed with the
Mastodon logo. Two Seymour Duncan Distortion pickups provide high-output tone
while preserving clarity for high-end sparkle.
