If you’ve heard his music, you can tell that Chris Buono is
a little eccentric. You’d pretty much have to be to come up with this guitar.
The custom double-cutaway design features an extra-wide lower cutaway, and the
combination of Mexican cocobolo and korina will definitely turn a few heads with its sound
and appearance. Korina is similar to mahogany, but with a lighter color and
more mid-range, while cocobolo is a highly figured wood, similar to rosewood. The natural oil-based finish gives it a beautiful artistic look
that’s only further accentuated by the custom wooden knobs and pickup rings.
The maple neck and rosewood fretboard feature standard dot inlays and a 4+2
headstock with a cocobolo overlay, burned-in First Act logo, and Steinberger
locking tuners to match the custom Skyway tremolo. Finally, two Dimarzio Virtual PAF
pickups are wired into a control scheme that features a five way switch,
momentary cut-off button, volume fader, two tone controls, and a Redeemer active circuit. The result is a
beautiful, if complex, guitar that’s perfectly matched to the man who plays it.
