The Miami-based riff factory know as Torche has been open
for business since 2005, rolling out their own brand of doom-influenced rock.
The band emerged after the dissolution of Floor, a South
Florida doom-metal staple, and began integrating more pop and rock
sensibilities into the sound. Of course, guitarists Juan Montoya and Steve
Brooks still tune their guitars way down for that special kind of sludgy chug
that that you can only get with a low A string. You can hear it for yourself on
their debut self-titled album, or their new release, 2008's Meanderthal, produced by Converge
guitarist Kurt Ballou.
