Priest Bird is comprised of Saunder Jurriaans on guitar and bass, Danny Bensi on cello, violin, piano, and vocals, and Gregory Rogove on drums. They released Book of Sand, their first full length album, in 2005. The album features freak-folk pioneer Devendra Banhart on one track. Their sound is one that mutates within each song, and can go from plaintive, orchestrated ballad to riffing metal madness at the turn of a beat. Jurriaans was formerly with the hip-hop tinged jazz funk outfit Gruvis Malt. The band is currently finalizing their second full-length album. The band recently returned from a European tour where they opened several shows for Pearl Jam.
