Longtime proponents of a do-it-yourself aesthetic, Big D and
the Kids Table have taken a slightly different route with their latest album,
2007’s Strictly Rude, by releasing it
through OneSideDummy Records after doing the engineering, producing and distributing
on most of their previous records by themselves. This time around, the band
even went so far as to recruit one of their fellow Bostonians, Mighty Mighty
Bosstones bassist Joe Gittleman, to produce. The move to a label hasn’t hurt
the band’s sound, as they’re still pumping out the same brand of feel-good ska
and lyrical wordplay, courtesy of singer and sometimes guitarist David McWane,
that has made them famous. The rest of the lineup is rounded out by guitarist
Seth P. Rogan, bassist Steve Foote, drummer Jon Reilly, trombonist Paul E.
Cuttler, trumpeter Dan Stoppelman, and saxophonist Ryan O’Connor.
