First Act Inc. was commissioned by Guster axe-man Adam Gardner to
create a unique, 100% custom 'green' guitar. Chief Luthier Kelly Butler
and Gardner collaborated on the design for the environmentally
sensitive instrument. Almost every aspect of this guitar was created
with a consciousness for the environment. The body of the guitar is
crafted from Forest Stewardship Council certified wood (The FSC is a
non-profit organization committed to encouraging the most responsible,
eco-friendly use of the world's forests) -- with the same wood used for the
neck and the inlay. Nearly all of the hardware and electronics are made
from recycled or salvaged parts. Even the exterior finish and paint
were chosen for their low toxin emission. Additionally, the carbon emissions associated with electrifying the guitar for its entire
lifetime will be made "carbon neutral" through renewable energy
company, Native Energy.
"I'm so excited to have another aspect
of our shows be green!" says Gardner. "What a cool way to demonstrate
to fans that you can rock and be environmental at the same time."
Guster has been fueling their tour busses with cleaner burning
biodiesel and neutralizing the emissions from their concerts with wind
power.
The addition of this unique 'green' guitar builds upon an
explosive year for First Act. They are rapidly and aggressively adding
to their impressive artist roster with one-of-a kind custom guitars.
Artists such as Adam Levine of Maroon 5, Dave Hidalgo of Los Lobos, and
Brent Hinds of Mastadon are recent recipients. First Act's guitars have
been featured everywhere from Franz Ferdinand's Nick McCarthy playing
his custom axe at the Grammys to the infamous VW campaign featuring
Slash playing through a stack of Jettas.
